EVMS offers employees a choice of several health plans, as well as a dental and vision plan. You may include your family under the policy by contributing the required cost of such additional coverage. It shall be your responsibility to request and obtain the coverage.

Employees are not able to drop or make changes to the plan until the annual Open Enrollment period unless an approved status change occurs (i.e., marriage, divorce, new child).

Employee coverage takes effect the second month following the date of hire: i.e., if hired July 1, coverage will be effective Sept. 1.

EVMS reserves the right to amend, modify, change or terminate any of the plans offered at any time, including any contribution percentages.

Short-Term Disability/Long-Term Disability

EVMS provides Short-Term Disability to its full-time benefits-eligible employees in the event that they become temporarily disabled and cannot work. Classified staff will receive 50% of base pay, and unclassified staff/faculty will receive 100% of base, less deductions. This plan is provided by EVMS at no cost to the employee.

EVMS provides its full-time benefits-eligible employees with a Long-Term Disability plan at no cost to them. The plan helps to protect our employees' income should they become disabled and unable to work.

The company also provides its full-time employees with Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance in the event that the employee is killed in an accident or becomes disabled due to a serious injury such as the loss of a limb or loss of sight.

EVMS is sensitive to the personal issues that affect our employees. That is why we are happy to provide employees with an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefit that can assist you and your family with work-life concerns. This benefit is provided to you and your dependents at no cost.

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to be reimbursed using pre-tax savings for out-of-pocket medical expenses that you incur for yourself or your covered dependents. EVMS provides its employees with the option of participating in an FSA and a Dependent Care FSA. The dependent care plan covers child care and care for dependents of any age who are mentally or physically incapable of self-care.

Employees are required to elect an amount each plan year. This plan does not automatically roll over.

Legal Resources is a voluntary benefit plan that covers subscribers and their dependents at 100% of attorney fees for certain legal matters. A legal matter must arise after you have enrolled in the plan in order to be covered. The attorney must participate in the Legal Resources network.
