The EVMS Fund
The EVMS Fund is critical to the school's education, research and patient care missions. By supporting scholarships, curriculum enhancements, technology upgrades, research equipment, faculty recruitment, the Strelitz Diabetes Center and other vital needs, the EVMS Fund provides vital tools for more health professionals to receive state-of-the-art education and training so they can make an impact on the lives of others.
Scholarships
The need for knowledgeable, compassionate healthcare providers is more critical than ever. But the challenge of student debt is enough to keep some from ever considering a career in the medical field. Scholarships enable EVMS to attract the most talented and committed future physicians and healthcare professionals. Support for scholarships is an investment in the future, offering students the opportunity to focus on their education without the worry of burdening loan payments.

Strelitz Diabetes Center
Diabetes is a life-changing diagnosis, but because of the EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center, it is not life ending. The Strelitz Diabetes Center is a national leader in diabetes research, education and patient care. Since 1987, it's been a source of hope and healing for people living with the condition. And we are pushing to do more. In fact, we're on a mission to find a cure for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. We are making strides, and with greater support, we can make a lasting impact.

Leroy T. Canoles Cancer Research Center
In 2009, Virginia accounted for more than 34,000 of the estimated 1.5 million new cancer diagnoses in the United States. The impact of that number on Hampton Roads is profound; the eastern region of Virginia has one of the highest rates of cancer deaths in the state. Scientists at the Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center are developing better tools for detecting and treating cancer. Our researchers designed and led the first study that validated a biomarker — cancer's fingerprint — for the National Cancer Institute, an important step toward developing better diagnostics. With your support, we can continue to pursue promising research that targets the types of cancer most prevalent in Hampton Roads.

Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology
The Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology focuses on the preventative, interventional and research aspects of age-related diseases. Geriatricians will be in high demand in the coming years as baby boomers age. The aging demographic, about 80 million individuals known as the "Silver Tsunami," will have a tremendous impact on the healthcare system in the future. When today's health professions students reach the prime of their careers, they may find themselves devoting 75 percent of their time to the geriatric population. Now more than ever, geriatric training is critical. By applying our research findings to the chronic disabilities of aging, the Glennan Center will help older patients maintain, as much as possible, a high degree of function and independence and avoid unnecessary and costly institutionalization.

Chairs and Professorships
EVMS is grateful for those donors who have made gifts to establish endowed chairs and professorships at the school. These funds ensure that EVMS is able to attract and retain faculty leaders. Appointments are recommended by the Provost and Dean and approved by the Board of Visitors. Faculty selection to an endowed chair or professorship recognizes the achievements of that individual and provides support and encouragement for his or her continued accomplishments.
