Professional Development Workshops
Professional development workshops are available in-person and virtually focused on the academic mission areas of education, research and leadership. Additional areas include Wellness and Women in Medicine and Science. The workshops focus on knowledge sharing, skills building and networking with peers at EVMS. A needs assessment conducted at the beginning of each calendar year informs activities in the subsequent year.
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
Continuing Medical Education (CME) consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that health care professionals uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. The content of CME is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public.
Professional Enrichment and Growth Grants
Professional Enrichment and Growth Grants are available to faculty members who wish to engage in an activity that will promote their professional growth in the area of academic medicine. Grants are awarded once a year and the call for applications is released around February time via email and update of the webpage.
Professional Development Bytes
Professional development bytes (PDB) are short videos focused on topics of relevance to all academic mission areas and faculty life. Interviews include external, nationally known faculty and EVMS faculty members with expertise on the topic. The average length of a PDB is 15 minutes and they are available 24/7. CME credit is provided.
Women in Medicine and Science (WiMS) Professional Development and Events
The mission of EVMS Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) is to support and advocate for the full participation, advancement and inclusion of women at all career stages. An annual WiMS event takes place in June as well as additional activities throughout the academic year. The WiMS Executive Committee guides activities and committee members are representative of EVMS functional areas, including community faculty.
Preceptor Credits
Community Faculty can earn American Medical Association (AMA) PRA Category 1 Credit by engaging in new learning intended to make you a better teacher/preceptor and then applying your new learning to teaching medical students, residents and fellows. CME credit recognizes how your learning changed your teaching.
