Incoming residents and fellows must provide documentation of proof of immunity to:
- Measles
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
Proof of immunity is either documentation of 2 vaccines given or a lab report showing a positive IgG antibody titer.
Hepatitis B
Proof of immunity for Hepatitis B is required by a lab report showing a positive quantitative Hepatitis B Surface Antibody titer. A qualitative titer will not be accepted.
Tdap
Documentation of a Tdap vaccine after age 11 is required, and either a Td or Tdap vaccine every 10 years thereafter.
Tuberculosis
An IGRA test is required within 6 months prior to the residency start date.
If you’ve had a previous positive TB test, you must submit documentation of evaluation and treatment or why treatment was contraindicated (evaluation must be conducted by a healthcare provider), a negative (normal) chest x-ray within 6 months prior to the residency start date, and an EVMS TB Surveillance Questionnaire.
How to Meet the Requirement
You will be required to upload all of your health requirements into the Origami Resident Platform. You will receive login instructions via your GME New Innovations account.
The deadline for submitting health requirements is May 11th. Failure to comply with the institution’s health requirements may delay the start of the residency or fellowship program.
Physical Exam
Incoming residents and fellows must have a physical exam performed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician's assistant who is not in their residency or fellowship program and who is not a relative within four months prior to the residency start date. Residents and fellows are responsible for the costs of all health requirements, including the physical exam, immunizations, antibody titers, IGRA testing, and chest x-ray if indicated. Occupational Health cannot perform the pre-matriculation physical examination.
Do not return medical forms to the program you are entering. Please keep a copy of the original documents for your personal records.
Drug Screen
Employment with EVMS is contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screen. Drug screens can be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm during the months of May and June. Drug screens are administered in Occupational Health located at the address below. Please make your appointment by calling 757.446.5870.
