EVMS and EVMS Medical Group Compliance Programs
The EVMS Board of Visitors is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies governing medical and health professions education, research, business, financial activity and patient care. The EVMS Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct demonstrate EVMS' commitment to the compliance process.
All employees, faculty, volunteers, students, residents and business associates of EVMS are expected to comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures regarding the conduct of research, education, business, patient services and financial activity. All are required to make sincere efforts to prevent, detect, and correct any acts which could be considered non-compliant with applicable laws, regulations, or policies and to report any such activity.
Similarly, EVMS Medical Group (intranet, authorized users only) has designed a compliance program to specifically address EVMS Medical Group patient privacy and billing compliance issues. Patient complaints should be made to the EVMS Medical Group Privacy Line at 757-451-6298.
Reporting Compliance Concerns
Each individual has a personal responsibility to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and all EVMS policies and procedures, as well as to report any activity that appears to violate any applicable law or regulation. Potential areas of non-compliance include financial, research, education, or patient services. Residents and students engaged in EVMS-sponsored educational activities, regardless of the location, are subject to EVMS policies, procedures, regulations and compliance requirements.
PATIENT COMPLAINTS should be made to the EVMS Medical Group Privacy Line.
Other reports may be made first, to the appropriate supervisor, department head, or next higher level of management. Or, if that is not feasible contact the EVMS Institutional Compliance Office or file a written or verbal report through the EVMS Ethics and Compliance Hotline: 1.800.461.9330 (anonymous reporting available).
EVMS will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who, in good faith, raises compliance questions or reports suspected compliance violations.
