About the Choosing Wisely STARS Program
The Choosing Wisely STARS Program provides students with leadership skills and foundational knowledge of high-value care so they may advocate for curricular changes to their undergraduate and graduate medical programs. Born from the ABIM Foundation’s Choosing Wisely campaign, the STARS Program extends the mission to include resource stewardship and encourages student engagement as early as their M1 year. Launched in Canada in 2015, the STARS Program has spread to seven other countries, beginning in the United States in 2017.
EVMS was among the first 25 United States medical schools to participate in the STARS Program and has remained among the most successful STARS programs in the country. In its first year, EVMS STARS worked with faculty and staff to create the first EVMS Choosing Wisely Day.
