The EVMS Student Wellness Program is made up of four separate components, including Student Health, Student Mental Health, Occupational Health, and Student Health Insurance.
Student Health, which is covered by your student fees and is supported by EVMS Family and Community Medicine, is offered independently from your health insurance. Find detailed information about these services.
The EVMS Student Health Insurance plan is offered by Aetna Student Health, underwritten by the Aetna Insurance Company. Learn more about the basics of health insurance through this video presentation.
Coverage is effective August 1 of each academic year and continues thru July 31.
Students are required to have personal health insurance policies. Each year, all full-time registered students are automatically enrolled in the EVMS Student Health Insurance Plan and their student accounts are charged for the premiums unless the online waiver is completed, attesting that comparable coverage is in place.
Those students who wish to waive the Student Health Insurance must do so by completing the online Student Health Insurance Waiver. An online waiver must be completed each academic year.
Student Health Insurance Waiver Information
Students are automatically enrolled and active on August 1. ID cards are available at the above site by clicking on Print my ID. At the close of the waiver period, a report is provided to Financial Services, and student accounts are adjusted accordingly.
If a waiver is not completed prior to August 31, the fee will stand. If a student has a waiver denied, they can contact Human Resources for assistance.
Dependent Coverage
Dependent coverage is purchased directly through Aetna at the above “Student Health Insurance Waiver” link. Please note that dependent coverage is available for a limited period of time at enrollment. Afterward, students will need to provide proof of a Qualifying Life Event to EVMS Human Resources in order to enroll a dependent.
Please contact Human Resources if you have questions or concerns.

Vision Coverage
