Morning lecture and noon conference
Radiology faculty deliver core and subspecialty lectures during morning lecture every weekday at 7 am. Residents and faculty present on a rotating basis at daily noon conferences on subspecialty teaching and case conferences. Noon conferences include general competencies lectures by senior residents every Thursday and Quality and Peer Learning Conference by all residents on the first Friday of every month.
Emergency Department/Quality Improvement conference
Radiology and Emergency Department faculty work together with Radiology and Pediatrics fellows and residents on improving the quality of service in the Emergency Department at this quarterly meeting.
Tidewater Imaging Conference
Residents and faculty discuss subspecialty topics on the third Wednesday of every month.
Physics
Residents participate in core didactic conferences every Thursday.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Alfred Abuhamad, MD, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty present a core conference on maternal-fetal medicine in six two-hour sessions per year.
Additional learning experiences
Visiting Professors/Grand Rounds
Six times a year, we invite a radiologist noted for teaching in their specialty to spend the day with our residents. All residents are excused from their clinical duties on these days. Lectures are typically case-oriented. These days provide a great chance to get exposure to other programs as well as new or developing modalities. Residents join the guest professor for lunch and often for dinner at a nice restaurant in our community the night before. This allows the residents a real opportunity to socialize with academic leaders from around the country who are making significant contributions to the field of radiology.
Journal Club
All faculty and residents take an evidence-based approach to questions that arise during the course of patient care at this monthly meeting.
Urology Tumor Board and Surgery Conference Tumor Board
Radiology residents present imaging for these multidisciplinary conferences with faculty guidance.
