EVMS Vascular Surgery offers an accredited two-year fellowship program that follows completion of an accredited five-year General Surgery program and is approved for three positions per year. At the end of the two years, graduates are expected to have the skills necessary to diagnose and define abnormalities of the vascular system, formulate a treatment plan based on available medical and surgical therapeutic options and perform all various surgical and endovascular reconstructive procedures deemed necessary.
Graduates also have an in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of vascular disease, especially in areas of hemodynamics, predisposing factors for atherosclerotic disease and knowledge of the pharmacokinetics of drugs used in the treatment of vascular pathology. Fellows have the opportunity to work with more than 15 Vascular Surgery faculty and attendings of diverse training backgrounds and specialty interests. Graduates experience exceptionally high specialty board pass rates. Additionally, fellows are exposed to a broad range of open and endovascular procedures at our affiliated hospitals, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Sentara CarePlex Hospital and Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
