At the start of the fellowship, the fellow is expected to complete the training requirements for participation in on-site medical direction with Virginia Beach EMS, including an Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC).
The curriculum is broken down into a block system. Each block provides a focus for the lectures, simulations, and training sessions. The experiential portion of the curriculum is a mix of traditional ground-based EMS care, with training on special operations, including air medical, tactical medical and search & rescue. The fellow will be expected to participate in the yearly EMS In-service exam and complete two simulation-based comprehensive assessments. At the end of their training the fellow will be prepared to successfully complete the ABEM EMS board-certification examination.
