Research Guides
Story Date: Mon, 01 May 2023 14:20:00 EDT
When researching a topic, it’s sometimes hard to figure out where to start. The EVMS Library research guides can help point you in the right direction. They are tools created by our librarians to share information from reliable resources about topics and services that are relevant to the different patron groups we serve—faculty, staff, students, and community members—for research and study.
Currently, the majority of our guides are one-pagers geared towards getting you up and running with our resources and services. They’re organized by user group (e.g., clinicians and residents, faculty, off-campus users, students), so you can find yours and get started.
Our more in-depth topic guides contain resources from the Library’s collection and/or resources that are freely available on the Web. For example, our Consumer Health guide was developed as part of the Library’s community outreach initiative to improve the health information seeking process and understanding of patients, family members, students, and other members of our Hampton Roads community through increased awareness and use of reliable, freely available, authoritative health information. We believe that students and residents on clinical rotations can use the Consumer Health guide as a reliable source for information and handouts for their patients and family members who have questions about their medical conditions. Public librarians from Norfolk and Virginia Beach have been trained on how to use this guide to assist their patrons with health-related questions, and we hope to work with librarians in other neighboring public library systems soon.
