Faculty members should consider scheduling an instruction session for their students if there is a research component to the class. Course-related library instruction is one of the most effective ways to teach students the art of research. Instructional sessions are even more effective with a specific assignment so students can practice the skills and strategies taught.
Sessions can include a general orientation to library resources and services, cover basic or advanced literature searches, or focus on a particular database or topic. Recent examples of presentations include "Finding Answers to Clinical Questions," "Advanced Medline Searching" and "Evidence-Based Medicine."
