EVMS Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) division provides consultation, evaluation and treatment options for patients with a variety of gynecologic conditions. We are part of the Sentara-EVMS Advanced Gynecologic Surgery Center which is a collaborative initiative between Sentara Healthcare and EVMS Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The goal is to provide innovative, patient-focused quality care for those who require treatment and surgery for complex gynecologic conditions.

Our mission

Our mission is to provide an individualized, patient-focused approach to women seeking care for gynecologic conditions. MIGS provides the most innovative and cutting-edge approaches to diagnostic testing, medical treatments, office-based procedures and surgical techniques.

We offer our patients state-of-the-art imaging techniques for gynecologic ultrasound, including Deeply Infiltrative Endometriosis, which often goes unappreciated with standard techniques. This approach allows the patient and physician to reach a personalized treatment plan that focuses on the patient’s treatment goals and not just their diagnosis.

Joseph L. Hudgens, MD

Joseph Hudgens, MD, is Vice Chair of Gynecologic Services, Director of the Sentara-EVMS Advanced Gynecologic Surgery Center, Fellowship Director and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. An expert in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, Dr. Hudgens' speciality is treating deeply infiltrating endometriosis.

He pioneered the 2-port myomectomy, which uses a specialized laparoscopic port that allows multiple tools to be inserted through the belly button.

Andrew W. Moore, MD

Dr. Moore is as an Assistant Professor within the Advanced Gynecological Surgical division of EVMS Obstetrics and Gynecology, where he also graduated from medical school in 2008.
He obtained the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology practice designation in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery and has received numerous teaching awards throughout his career.

Hannah S. Palin, MD

Dr. Palin currently serves as an Assistant Professor of EVMS Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. She completed her residency training at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital where she received the 2023 Golden Stethoscope Award for exceptional commitment to the education of medical students.

She has special interest in the treatment of fibroids and abnormal uterine bleeding as well as ultrasound and its use in preoperative surgical planning.

Jeffrey J. Woo, MD

Dr. Jeffrey J. Woo completed his Bachelor of Science degree at University of California Davis and earned his Medical Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. His clinical interests consist of complex gynecological surgery and second opinion for patients with severe endometriosis and fibroids.
