Burn injuries of every degree of severity - whether caused by a minor incident in the kitchen or an industrial explosion - require a multidisciplinary, systematic approach to assessment, management and rehabilitation. A thoughtful treatment plan, including highly trained acute care surgeons, reconstructive plastic surgeons, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses and other medical professionals, is essential to improving patient outcomes and enhancing quality of life. Recovery can be prolonged, necessitating several procedures to achieve maximum cure.
Led by EVMS Medical Group surgeon Jay N. Collins, MD, the Burn Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is recognized as a Burn Care Facility by the American Burn Association.
The Burn Center is a member of the Regional Southern Burn Conference and the American Burn Association.
