The Center for Comprehensive Care of Immune Deficiency (C3ID) was founded in June of 1994. The goal of C3ID is to provide care for HIV infected persons who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise without access to care throughout Southeastern Virginia. To meet this goal, C3ID participates in Federal HRSA Ryan White (RW) CARE Act Part B grants, Ryan White CARE Act Part A grants, and Ryan White CARE Act Part C grants.
Services
The C3ID’s goal is to provide the comprehensive services to all people living with HIV/AIDS regardless of income or insurance, to those who meet eligibility criteria:
- Expert primary medical care by a board-certified infectious disease physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant specializing in HIV care.
- Specialty care referrals as needed for HIV related issues to ophthalmologists, gastroenterologists, gynecologists, dermatologists, surgeons and psychologists with experience in HIV issues.
- Client-sensitive social and medical case management.
- Medical counseling and medication education.
- Access to HIV medications, if eligible.
- Early access to new HIV medications at no charge through clinical research trials.
- Access to transportation to care appointments.
- Linkages to substance abuse counseling and treatment.
- Linkages for HIV+ pregnant women to the EVMS TRAC clinic to assure safer and healthier childbirth.
- Educational updates on advances in HIV treatment for patients and families.
- Transition of Ryan White ACRE Act funded patients to insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
