Clinical Care
Inpatient Clinical Practice
Our GIM inpatient/hospitalist practice is located at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH), which is the premier tertiary care and referral center in Eastern Virginia. Our hospitalists oversee and supervise 5 inpatient Internal Medicine resident teams as well as an academic Internal Medicine consultation service. The faculty see patients on general medical floors as well in the progressive care units and work closely with all of the surgical and medical specialists at SNGH to manage complex patients with multisystem illnesses. Our inpatient quality measures are excellent and reflect the benefits of an academic hospitalist service.
Outpatient Practice
Our Primary Care practice is based across the street from SNGH and provides outstanding care for acute and chronic medical conditions with a focus on preventative care. GIM faculty supervise EVMS Internal Medicine residents at our office practice and in addition, each faculty member has a private panel of patients. In addition to providing chronic care and preventative services, we also see patients for preoperative evaluation and travel consultation.
Sentara Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) Clinic
Our faculty and Internal Medicine residents support the health care needs of our community by providing care to adult patients of our region who are low-income, uninsured, or underinsured. The ACC clinic offers lab services and diagnostic testing as well as follow up visits for patients recently discharged from local Sentara hospitals.
