Dr. David Johnson honored with national clinical achievement award

David A. Johnson, MD, Professor of Internal Medicine and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, has received a top honor from the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). ‌

Dr. Johnson is the 2012 recipient of the Berk/Fise Clinical Achievement Award, formerly known as the ACG Clinical Achievement Award. The award, given annually, recognizes a single individual for "distinguished contributions to clinical gastroenterology over a significant period of time."

Dr. Johnson is a former President of the American College of Gastroenterology. He spearheaded legislation in Virginia that requires insurers to cover the cost of colon cancer screening. That legislation served as a model for other states.
