Dr. Derkay receives prestigious national award

Craig S. Derkay, MD, professor of otolaryngology and director of pediatric otolaryngology at EVMS, was recently awarded the prestigious Sylvan E. Stool Award from the Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Advances in Children (SENTAC).

Dr. Derkay earned the national honor for his outstanding lifetime contributions and service in the field of ear, nose and throat advances in children.

He received the award at SENTAC's 39th annual meeting in Kansas, MO. SENTAC is a non-profit interdisciplinary professional organization founded in 1973. Its members are otolaryngologists, pediatricians, surgeons, pediatric otolaryngologists, speech pathologists, audiologists, nurses and basic scientists-all of whom are interested in enhancing the care of children with acquired or congenital disorders of the ear, nose and throat.

Dr. Derkay's primary areas of interest and expertise involve pediatric otolaryngology with special interest in otitis media and recurrent respiratory papillomas, airway reconstruction, pediatric sinusitis and congenital and inflammatory processes of the head and neck.

Dr. Derkay earned his MD from the Medical College of Virginia and did his residency training at MCV (surgery) and the University of Pittsburg (otolaryngology). He completed fellowship training at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C. and is board certified in otolaryngology- head and neck surgery. Dr. Dekay is a member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology; the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery; the American College of Surgeons; and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
