Gaurav Basu, a native of India who earned a PhD in biomedical sciences from EVMS in 2003, is featured in an article on Nature.com about immigration reform. The article reports that Basu is struggling to keep his American dream alive after finishing a postdoctoral fellowship at Old Dominion University in 2011. He and many other foreign scientists are fighting tough odds to stay in the United States permanently by applying for a coveted but scarce green card, an issue that immigration reform will address.
