EVMS student wins statewide award

Krishna Aluri, MD '14, is the 2013 medical student recipient of the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation’s Salute to Service Award. The award recognizes Mr. Aluri’s work with the Health Outreach Partnership of EVMS Students (HOPES) Free Clinic. He is one of the four founders of the clinic, which is the only student-run free clinic in Virginia.
Since opening in 2011, HOPES has treated almost 600 uninsured patients in the Norfolk area. The clinic provides primary and specialty care for underserved residents of Norfolk while providing a unique educational experience for members of the EVMS community.
Mr. Aluri has served on the clinic’s board of directors and created the clinic’s translator program for Spanish. According to Karen Remley, MD, Founding Director of the M. Foscue Brock Institute, Mr. Aluri is, “recognized throughout EVMS as a respected student leader, noted for his measured and thoughtful contributions to both EVMS and the city of Norfolk.”
