Mekbib Gemeda Joins EVMS as Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion

Vice President of Diversity and InclusionProvost and Dean Richard V. Homan, MD, is pleased to announce that Mekbib Gemeda has joined EVMS as Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion. Mr. Gemeda has more than a decade of experience developing and implementing strategies to enhance health equity through workforce development and community engagement.

Over the past eight years, he served as Assistant Dean for Diversity Affairs and Community Health, as well as founding Director of theCenter for the Health of the African Diaspora at New York University School of Medicine. There, he developed strategies and initiatives to increase diversity among students, residents, fellows, faculty and the leadership and pipelineprograms that extend from middle school to college. His work at NYU included enhancing community outreach efforts and global health initiatives across the education, research and patient-care mission areas. He also spearheaded efforts in the curriculum reform initiative to integrate health disparities and community health into the core medical school curriculum.

Before joining NYU, Mr. Gemeda was involved in developing a robust NIH-supported biomedical research center and a nationally recognized faculty and graduatestudent recruitment and retention program at Hunter College of the City University of New York.
