Course description: This elective permits the assumption of greater patient responsibility on the part of the medical student, in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. This elective is recommended if a student is interested in pursuing a residency in OB-GYN and desires more in-depth exposure to the specialty. Our faculty tries to tailor our program to a student’s particular interest, but the basic expectation for this course should be advanced clinical management and reinforcement of cognitive material and problem-solving skills. The student will function as an acting intern.
Objectives:
- Increase and reinforce basic core knowledge of Obstetrics and Gynecology as detailed in clerkship objectives
- Increase skills in clinical evaluation and management judgments
- Increase technical skills in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Gain greater competence in ambulatory care and treatment
Distribution of student’s effort:
- Patient contact: 70% inpatient, 30% outpatient
- Rounds: 14 hours per week
- Conferences and lectures: 7 hours per week
- Study and reading time: 8 hours per week
- Faculty contact time: 10 hours per week
