Maternal Fetal Medicine
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program (MFM) at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is a division within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our physicians and staff are members of EVMS Medical Group, a not-for-profit practice supporting the mission of EVMS. The program serves all of Hampton Roads and its outlying communities, providing state-of-the-art women's health services designed to enhance clinical treatment and outcomes. Our mission is to provide the best quality of care to pregnant women and their unborn children in our communities through education, research and clinical care.
MFM offers several specialty programs consistent with its comprehensive, evidence-based approach to high risk pregnancy management. Each program's goal is to minimize the risk of specific medical conditions that could affect the mother or baby during pregnancy and include:
- Diabetes in Pregnancy Program
- HIV in Pregnancy Program
- Maternal Transport Program
- Prenatal Diagnosis and Genetics Program
- Fetal Cardiovascular Program
Our program is led by board-certified Maternal Fetal Medicine Physicians. Our physicians are supported by physician assistants, nurse practitioners, ultrasonographers, genetic counselors and other clinical support staff; all specifically trained in the treatment of high risk pregnancy. Our program only manages high risk pregnancy, working together with each patient's general obstetrician.
