Our Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship contains various components that provide fellows with the background knowledge, clinical and research experience necessary to deliver excellent care to children suspected of having been abused.
During our three-year training, fellows work in CHKD's Child Abuse Program, which provides forensic interviews, medical evaluations, psychological testing, case management, family advocacy, psychotherapy and other services.
Clinical activities
Fellows will become clinically proficient in the evaluation, care and treatment of a child or adolescent victim resulting from abuse and or neglect.
Fellows perform inpatient and investigative consultations and sexual assault examinations. Fellows spend three clinic days per week at the Child Abuse Clinic and schedule urgent cases as they arise.
Fellows also participate in:

- Hampton Roads Regional Fatality Review Team meetings to develop prevention strategies to address concerns surrounding child fatalities in the region
- Multidisciplinary team evaluation as a medical representative on cases in jurisdictions across seven regional cities and several branches of the military
