It is a pleasure to welcome you to the EVMS Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program, one of the newest programs in the country. Our program is part of an ambitious development of a comprehensive system of care for children with mental health needs at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, the only freestanding children’s hospital in the state. The expansion is community-driven and intentionally family-focused and committed to serving our large and diverse catchment area with equitable access to high quality care. Our stellar faculty from programs across the country who joined our program to be part of the vision of growth at CHKD with a desire to be part of an academic program. While 2023 will be our first year for child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, we already have developed a robust training community with active engagement with our general psychiatry program, collaborative experiences with a large pediatric residency, and a growing group of medical students interested in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Our incoming fellows have a chance to join this incredible mission to shape the foundations of child and adolescent psychiatry for our eastern Virginia region. Our region is a hidden gem with the cultural resources of a large metropolitan area with city living and beach living, diverse population, and quality schools. More importantly, we are committed to providing a flexible training experience that provides clinical experiences across the continuum of care from prevention to specialty intensive care, meets the individual needs of each of our trainees, and builds lasting collegial relationships.
