Applying basic science to clinical practice
Physiology is essential in medical education and clinical training. That’s why our faculty provide students with an integrated understanding of physiology, pharmacology and biochemistry that covers cell structure and function; the mechanisms, interactions and applications of drugs; and metabolism and nutrition.
We use innovative classroom and lab techniques to help students develop critical thinking and patient-oriented problem-solving skills.
From the bench to the bedside
Our investigators are working to eradicate disease and discover effective new ways to prevent and treat illness, leading translational studies that address major health issues in our community and beyond.
Faculty members are engaged in broad basic and applied research programs in diabetes and obesity, human reproduction, fetal-neonatal development, neurodegeneration and aging, heart disease, hypertension and ocular pharmacology.
