Brickell Medical Sciences Library receives national award
The Brickell Medical Sciences Library recently celebrated National Librarian’s Week by holding a ribbon cutting for its upgraded public-access computer station.
The new resources are, in part, thanks to the Southeastern Atlantic Region (SEA) All of Us Community Engagement Award through the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. The award seeks to help libraries in providing training in health information literacy and guiding patrons to the appropriate resources to make informed health decisions.
The SEA All of Us Community Engagement Award highlights the All of Us Research Program. The program, funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), seeks to gather data from one million U.S. residents to see how health differences and characteristics can be used to find and tailor treatments in an effort to build upon precision medicine.
Under the leadership of Librarians Esther Sarino and Marissa Stone, along with their Reference Services colleagues, the EVMS library staff will use the award to continue expanding outreach to the local community. This will entail upgrading the public-access computer station through which public patrons access the library’s health and medical resources, partnering with Norfolk Public Library in training how to search health resources, improving the overall health-seeking process and understanding the health information of the Hampton Roads community.
