Event examines resiliency and success among women in medicine
Nearly one hundred people recently gathered for a women in medicine and science networking event at EVMS.
The program, which was sponsored by Faculty Affairs and Professional Development as well as the Virginia chapter of Association of Women Surgeons, began with a presentation by Patricia Numann, MD, Lloyd S. Rogers Professor of Surgery, Emeritus, SUNY Health Sciences Center and former president of the America Colleges of Surgeons, titled “Exploring Resiliency and Defining Success.”
It was followed by a panel discussion and networking lunch.
Attendees found the program to be of great value.
“The importance of networking and mentoring for women’s careers is undeniable but I also consider it critical that institutions publicly value the diversity of its people,” says Allison Knight, PhD, Director of Academic Development, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. “We need to do a better job of sharing our stories in hopes of encouraging others to seek support for their own resilience.”
