Why Francine and Devan Gambo became standardized patients

After Francine Gambo encountered a physician with poor communication skills, she vowed to help others avoid similar traumatic experiences. She joined EVMS as a “standardized patient,” where she portrays a patient in order to help health-care providers learn proper communication techniques and clinical skills. Her son, Devan Gambo, got involved, becoming a standardized patient at 13 years old.
