Fishing fundraiser to benefit EVMS has record year
A record number of 40 boats took part in last month’s Wine, Women and Fishing, the billfish tournament held every August to raise funds for EVMS. Since 2004, the tournament has raised $450,000 to benefit breast cancer research. Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation produces the event.
Attendance at the event’s dock party, which closes the tournament weekend Sunday evening, surpassed 800. To show their appreciation for the fundraiser, 15 faculty and staff members from the EVMS Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center volunteered at the event.
Taking first place in this year’s tournament was the boat Waterman, and the Crazy Crew winner was Wired Up, featuring Team Darkside. The Top Lady Angler was Leslie Simon on the boat Canyon Express. For more information, visit Wine, Women and Fishing.
