“Frugal science” proponent headlines March 26 research conference
Manu Prakash, PhD, an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University working in physical biology and “frugal science,” will give the keynote address at this year’s Graduate Student Virtual Research Conference March 26.
Each year, Master's and PhD students in the EVMS Biomedical Sciences Student Organization host the conference to support the academic enrichment of graduate students from universities across Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and beyond. This year the focus is on the impact basic science research can have on changing the landscape of global health and society as a whole.
Dr. Prakash combines his passion for basic science with development of affordable and accessible technologies that can be used for science education, research and public health in resource-poor settings with the goal of democratizing access to scientific tools. He is best known for developing the paper microscope Foldscope and Paperfuge, a 20-cent, hand-powered centrifuge made of paper and string.
Students can submit research abstracts using this link. The abstract submission deadline is Feb 21.
