Medical student will run Shamrock Marathon to support EVMS Alliance
Devan Wilkins, MD Class of 2023, has a unique training tip ahead of the springtime running season: Try some maple syrup.
The Vermonter (and experienced runner) swears the natural sugar gives her a boost — and a push across the finish line.
Ms. Wilkins is one of eight runners and walkers participating next month in the 50th Annual Yuengling Shamrock Marathon as part of Team EVMS. This year, participants have chosen a special fundraising cause that’s close to their heart. For Ms. Wilkins, that’s EVMS Alliance.
“I'm supporting EVMS Alliance because they help make our community a more inclusive place,” Ms. Wilkins says. “I'm part of team EVMS because it's a great opportunity to positively impact the community. It's much easier to put on my sneakers and motivate for a run when I know there's a bigger purpose outside of my own physical fitness.”
As for what she’s most excited about, Ms. Wilkins says that’s an easy question: “Finishing the race!”
