Participants test simulation skills during SimWeek 2019
The Sentara Center for Simulation & Immersive Learning at EVMS is celebrating Healthcare Simulation Week 2019.
The event aims to bring greater awareness about how healthcare simulation leads to safer and more knowledgeable patient care.
Events kick off on Monday, September 16, with a CPR compression competition. Participants will get the chance to provide CPR to manikins that are wirelessly connected to iPads that track the depth and rate of compressions.
On Wednesday, visitors will test their dexterity with an FLS box trainer competition. The device is commonly used to help prepare surgeons for laparoscopic surgery. Participants transferred rubber pieces between pegs by looking at a camera image on a screen.
On Friday, everyone in Lester Hall will get a chance to see a variety of simulation offerings including app-controlled stethoscopes and see-through Foley catheter task trainers.
“EVMS continues to be an innovator in developing new ways to use technology to teach common medical procedures and to provide students with a safe environment in which to practice and perfect their techniques,” says Bob Armstrong, Executive Director of the EVMS Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning. “Simulation resources like these help make people better doctors and health professionals.”
All of the events will be held in the Norfolk Southern Foundation Lobby in Lester Hall.
