State official shares his journey to leadership
The Hon. Daniel Carey, MD, Secretary for Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Virginia, presented “The Journey from Physician to Executive to Secretary: What I have to remember and what I have to forget,” April 16, at an event held by the M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health at EVMS.
He shared his thoughts on leadership, success and resiliency.
Before joining the Northam administration in January, Dr. Carey was Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Centra, a regional nonprofit healthcare system based in Lynchburg.
He has served as President of the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia and MSV Foundation. Dr. Carey graduated from the University of Virginia and attended Harvard Medical School.
