Women will lead all three EVMS boards
For the first time in EVMS history, women will lead all three of the institution’s volunteer boards simultaneously. Beginning July 1, women will serve in the top posts for the EVMS Board of Visitors, EVMS Foundation Board of Trustees and EVMS Alumni Board for fiscal year 2021.
Shirley Baldwin, owner of Baldwin Advisory and former Director of Taxation at the Norfolk-based CPA firm Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer, was elected Chair of the EVMS Foundation Board of Trustees after serving as Vice Chair. The second woman to lead this board, Ms. Baldwin also serves as Co-Chair of its Capital Campaign Steering Committee.
Kelly Walls Brown, MPH (MPH ’06), MBA, Staff Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, Network and Care Delivery with Amerigroup/Anthem, is the current Chair of the EVMS Alumni Board. Ms. Brown joined the board in 2009 and became Chair in 2016.
“This may seem like a remarkable coincidence,” says Richard V. Homan, MD, President and Provost of EVMS and Dean of the School of Medicine, “but it is actually a natural and purposeful progression as the composition of our boards has evolved over the years. On behalf of our EVMS faculty, staff, students and residents, I am grateful that these three leaders will be overseeing the vital work of our institution.”
