Every Woman's Life is a community-outreach program for uninsured and low-income women in Norfolk and Portsmouth that helps provide access to free:

  • Breast and cervical screening exams
  • Mammograms
  • Pelvic exams
  • Pap tests

Access to these screening exams and services offers early detection, improves treatment options, and greatly increases survival rates.

Every Woman's Life is a CDC-funded program, whose grants are allocated through state health departments. In Virginia, the EVMS program was one of two pilot programs launched in 1997. Their success gave rise to 30 provider sites across the state. The EVMS program has become one of Virginia's largest. As of June 2019, more than 14,000 women have had mammogram and pap screenings through this program over the last 22 years, with 2.5 percent of those women treated for breast or cervical cancers found through the screenings.
