Students join in an ongoing effort to rehabilitate clients working through the challenges of drug and alcohol addiction. This rehabilitation effort includes holistic approaches to mind, body and spirit and is as practical as vocational training. Students will fill various roles at the center. The community impact, if successful, is that community members who struggle with addiction will find their way back to constructive participation in our community and constructive participation in their families. This facility houses 100+ clients at a given time.
Students will study the social determinants of health and the health and career consequences of drug and alcohol addiction. Additionally, students will study the relational consequences of drug and alcohol addiction.
Students:
- Analyze the structure of the Salvation Army and its overall community impact.
- Define the system inputs and outputs that lead to the addiction cycle, including social determinants of health.
- Actively serve in Rehab Center roles.
- Objectively define the parameters of success for participants in the program.
- Analyze the function and results of the center, mapping the processes by individual goal and providing positive feedback for improving the program.
- Describe optimal methods for assessing the individual needs of individuals who have unique medical or psychological challenges.
- Monitor pre-program health and psychological status, mid-program health and psychological status, and post-program health and psychological status. Different elements of health — self-perception, perceived happiness, career readiness and relational fitness — should be included in these assessments.
