PhD candidates Cody Phelps and Robert Van Sciver won 2 of 3 Biomedical Sciences travel awards at this year's Research Day.

Mr. Phelps' poster was based on his current research which has revealed a new tumor suppressive role of TTF-1/NKX2-1 in lung cancer by showing that TTF-1 can confer a sensitivity to the chemotherapy drug cisplatin by increasing the secretion of the cytokine GM-CSF. Cody is a member of David Mu's lab.

Mr. Van Sciver's poster was based on research that has identified SINA/SIAH as a novel cancer target and shown that it is evolutionarily and functionally conserved from fruit flies to humans. Robbie is a member of Amy Tang's lab.
