Sentara Norfolk General Hospital
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for EVMS, is home to the area's only Level I trauma center and burn trauma unit and the region's premier heart program. Interns' adult inpatient experiences at this hospital focus on the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit and the Consultation Liaison service. On the inpatient consultation-liaison service, interns are exposed to patients with a variety of medical and psychiatric concerns. Inpatient training centers on the intern's ability to adapt to the medical/hospital culture and to provide the needed diagnostic assessment and therapy services the patient requires.

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is the only freestanding children's hospital in Virginia. The hospital, a pediatric Level I trauma center, is home to the area's largest and most advanced neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, as well as the state's only acute inpatient rehabilitation unit. Pediatric Behavioral Medicine rotation interns provide inpatient and outpatient assessment and therapy services. Inpatient training focuses on preparing the intern to work effectively in a diverse hospital culture and to provide brief assessment and short-term interventions. Outpatient training affords the intern short and longer-term therapy experiences with pediatric patients and families.

Eastern State Hospital
Eastern State Hospital is a mental health facility that houses 300 patients. Its staff treats people from diverse populations including individuals from local correctional facilities and patients in need of long-term care. Interns on Adult Psychiatric Inpatient service complete major rotations in Acute Admissions & Pretrial Forensics and NGRI Forensics & Risk Management. Interns engage in inpatient treatment with acute and chronic severe psychiatric disorders across civil and forensic populations, with particular focus on individual and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation, crisis management and behavior modification, psychological assessment and program development.

EVMS Hofheimer Hall
Interns and full-time faculty hold outpatient training clinics in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at EVMS' Hofheimer Hall. Interns have the opportunity to learn and refine skills in diagnostic and psychological assessment; individual psychotherapy using psychodynamic, supportive or cognitive-behavioral approaches within a long-term or brief therapy framework; marital and family therapy; interviewing and play therapy with children; interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration; and outpatient medication management and consultations. Interns typically carry a caseload of two to three psychotherapy clients with a minimum of one hour of clinical supervision.
